About Me
My full name is Alyssa Kathleen Hoffman. I am 23 years of age and currently living in Columbus, OH. I graduated in June of 2010 from The Ohio State University with my Bachelor's Degree. My current program of study at Ashland University is teaching licensure in Middle Childhood Education (Grades 4-9) in the areas of Language Arts and Reading and Social Studies. My dream would be to have a Middle School Language Arts classroom. I love to read and write. This has been a passion of mine since I was in grade school. I am extremely interested in Young Adult Literature. Currently my favorite books are the Hungar Games Series, Maximum Ride, and Looking For Alaska. I also grew up with the Harry Potter saga, and loved all seven of the books. It is a goal of mine as a Language Arts teacher to encourage life long reading in my students as they grow in their education and beyond. I believe that it has been my love for reading that has kept me on my path through higher education and pursuing my career, as well as expanding my knowledge of the world around me. In my spare time I obviously enjoy reading, watching Ohio State Football, reality television, listening to music, and planning my wedding. My current job is at a Preschool Literacy Lab at The Ohio State University called the Children's Learning Research Collaborative. I just finished working for a project that involved Math and Science in the Core Curriculmn in Preschool classrooms in Columbus, OH. I am now currently working for a state-wide project geared towards assessing the affect that professional development for Preschool teachers has on students during and after their preschool experiences. Although preschool is not the age group that I want to teach in the future, I have found that I have gained a great knowledge of the educational world through my job in research. For contact purposes, my ashland email account can be used. My email is ahoffma7@ashland.edu.
Technology & Me!
My experience with technology has been both personal and professional. I am currently a member of the Facebook movement, was a part of the Myspace movement, and even participated in some online journaling through a site called Xanga. I use technology to write my papers, to research information for personal and educational use, as well as to create presentations such as this one. Professionally, I use a lot of databases for data collection and reliability analysis for my job. Considering all of this, I would say my ability in using technology is a level below pro. Although, I am very fluent in using different programs, I may not know exactly everything there is to know about how to use different tools in technology.
Course Expectations
From this course, I expect to gain more knowledge in different resources I can use for my classroom that are related to technology. I plan to use this knowledge to help my students in their 21st century skills, as well as keep my classroom running smoothly while using technology i.e. not having to ask my student's to help me because I don't understand.
