What's Going On?
Mrs. Murdock
Parents, We have been very busy! We have some special surprises for our moms for Mother's Day. We have also been working on some special surprises for our graduation day. Please be sure and mark your calendar for this special day - June 3rd at 9:00. We are also working on our sight words and learning about word families in our reading groups. In math, we have been learning about number patterns - counting by 5's, 10's, etc. We are also practicing writing our numbers. We have been learning about insects in science. My dad, Lynn Barber, came and brought his beekeeper equipment and spoke about this fascinating insect. We are currently the proud owners of 6 african dwarf frog tadpoles. They were given to us by Bree and Fallon Baty. They woke up one morning to approximately 75 eggs in their frog habit. They are tiny but growing. Thanks Baty Girls!!! We still have lots to learn and we are very busy. Don't forget to study those sight words. We are trying to build STRONG first graders!!! A special thanks to all of our parents who brought treats for the teachers this week. We have had some amazing food. Thanks a bunch. Love ya, Mrs. Murdock
Mrs. Whitlock
I enjoyed visiting with each of you at parent conferences. You have such wonderful children. We have super writers in our classroom. We are using our sightwords in our stories. Practicing sounding out words and using spacing and puncation. WOW! I am so proud. We also have wonderful readers in our class too. Please spend time reading with your child every night. This is special time to spend with your children. We are working on addition and subtraction in math. Everyone is doing a great job. Keep up the good work. Thanks for all you do... Mrs. Whitlock

Heathly Snacks
The Price of Friday Healthy snacks has changed from 50 cents to $1.00. This is due to a mistake in the handbook at the beginning of the year. Please only send money on Fridays. The money is used to help 5th graders goto Space Camp. Mrs. Murdock and Mrs. Whitlock have 5th graders this year so lets buy, buy, buy. They sell pickles, cheese crackers and animals crackers.

Things We Need
Welcome to Second Grade!!! If you haven't paid $1.00 for your child's homework folder(s), please do so ASAP.
Tips for Learning
Remember to read, read, read 15 minutes each evening! Ask your child's opinion about things. Encourage him/her to tell you how he/she came to this conclusion. The homework packet is a resource...if you are unable to do all of it, pick and choose the things your child needs practice in.
Mrs. Fuselier
We are renaming numbers like this: 92 9 tens and 2 ones 2 tens and 7 tens and 2 ones It's fun...have your child show you how to do it!!!
Mrs. Montgomery
My reading group is working very hard to improve decoding skills and fluency. Remember, fluency is the speed (not too slow, not to fast), intonation, and accuracy with which you read. Your child MUST read orally with you each night to improve his/her skills. Thank you for your help at home!!!
Mrs. Stanley
I think we have our class schedule down. We are loving PE, Spanish, Art, Music, Computer Lab, and going to the Library! Library books may come home for reading in the evening! Look for them. Also PIG books are coming home for evening reading. Enjoy!!!
Upcoming Activities
Don't forget to turn in your behavior notes, otherwise your child will miss Cougar Workout on Friday!!! School starts at 7:55...don't be tardy! Remember 5 tardies = 1 detention hall!!!!

AR news
Our students are very excited about AR and reading their books and trying to accomplish their goals. We just recently had an AR store where they could use their points to buy prizes. Please encourage your child to read.
You can keep up with their progress by going to the website, Renaissance Home Connect, from any computer with an internet connection using these browsers:
Internet Explorer 6.02 or later, Firefox 1.5 or later or Safari 2.0.3 or later. If you did not receive a letter with your child's user name and password, just email me and I will print another one for you.
https://hosted154.renlearn.com/214629/HomeConnect/Login.aspx
You can easily access all the AR book titles that are available and find book levels and point values.
