Overview of Website

This website was made for a school project. I put many hours into this project so I hope you enjoy it. Each tab has the topic that was required for school and a comment box or two for suggestions or just to state your opinion about the topic. I am open to critizim, but remember the next few sayings, Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its abily to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. Work will win when wishing won't. To win without risk is to triumph without glory. Before you judge me, make sure your own hands are clean. Each of those sayings means something that has to do with this project. If you judge/grade me based on other projects, it is not fair because each person is unique, and I tried my best. Also, not everyone is good with websites. I worked hard instead of wishing that I would just recieve a good grade/review, and I took a risk by writing this paragraph because I felt like it and taking risks are what make you stand out. Last but not least is don't grade/judge me too harshly if I put effort into this project. I will hopefully get the grade/review that i deserve because of my effort not my lack of skills.

Book Review

Book Review

The book, And Then There Were None, is a great book for anyone. The book is unique and wasn't written in five minutes. I could tell that Agatha Christie put lots of time into researching the poem and ways to incororate the poem into the novel. I think it is amazing that she incorporated a real poem into the book instead of making up one. It is definitely a bigger challenge when someone uses a real poem instead of writing one for convience. It really shows what challenges she is willing to try. I have read a couple Agatha Christie books in the past, but this one is my favorite by far. It isn't your average murder mystery novel and it is a nail biter. I honestly could not predict the ending to the book. I only found a couple issues with the book that still bug me. One is that the real murderer was not revealed at the end by leaving a calling card or any clue to who he was. I have my guess of who it was, but it still disappoints me that there is not a sequal or a clue given at the end to satisfy me. Also, some of the murders are kind of rushed. When the marble bear is thrown out the window, I had not known previously that there was a marble bear in Vera's room. If I had known that, it would have more sense when the bear was thrown. I also felt that the end was very rushed. It reminded me of the third Hunger Games book. It felt like it was written just to finish the book. I could still tell that some of the good quality of the rest of the book was still there, but not all of it. I think the book could have had more imagery to paint a better picture in my head. I could figure out most of it, but I still didn't know what the main characters completely looked like. I still thought the book was amazing overall though. If about another month was put into it, I think it could have been a lot better than it was. The book had a bunch of amazing parts about it too. I loved the fact that it was based off of a real poem. I still can't get over that. Also, the book was well written and Agatha definitely knew what she was talking about when she wrote the book. It is very obvious that she spent countless hours looking for the right vocabulary and the right scenary for the book. I could definitely tell that this was a British book and that is was not modern. Agatha made sure that she was very clear from the beginning. The book also has a very interesting plot. It is not like many others where 10 people are sent to an island for their death. It is a very original novel that stands out among others. It was also creative that most of the people did not know each other and that they were completely different people. No one was very similar to another. The book is also very descriptive on how each person dies. They are very creative ways to die and the survivors attitudes sometimes even give you a good laugh.

Plot Line

Exposition- All of the guests are brought to Soldier Island. An island that not much is known about. Each character has a reason that they were brought there. All of them have commuted murder one way or another. They each are all brought to the island on a boat waiting for their mysterious host. Conflict- The conflicts starts when the remaining guests figure out that the murderer is one of them. The tension rises between even the simplest people. Rising Action- The Rising Action is each of the murders from the poem. Each guest dies in a way like the poem in the same order. One by one another guest leaves and the tension rises between the remaining. No one knows who the murderer is. All they have is there assumptions. Climax- The Climax would be when only a few are left and deaths come fast. The true murderer is thought to be revealed but isn't. They are still in hiding. Falling Action- The Falling Action would be when Vera commits suicide. By her commuting suicide, you could figure out that she was the murderer, but there is a twist of course. When the police go to investigate, the chair Vera kicked away was out back neatly instead of lying on the ground which means the true murderer is yet to be found. Resolution- The Resolution is when the police figure out in what order the people die and figure out that there is an actual murder. It ends with the murderer not being found.

Characterize the Hero

Characterize the Heros

There isn't a main hero in the book. It is one way that it is different from others. There is 10 main characters, but as the book progresses there is less and less. However, each person brought to the island has a reason that they are there whether they know it or not. Each person brought to the island has murdered someone directly or indirectly. They are all brought to the same place and are going to pay for their sins. The remaining ones all have managed to dodged the killers path and survive at least an hour longer than the person before them. They are each almost brought to the task to see if they can live the longest and outsmart the killer . Each guest has a flaw or two though. Emily Brent is very secretive and thinks too highly of herself. Vera Claythorne freaks out too much. The general just let his life go. The judge is too concerned with the facts and not the possibility that the killer can hear his every word. Lombard judges people too quickly and lets his guard down towards women. The doctor plays a risky role in each murder. Marston lived a little too care free. Blore is too secretive. The Rogers are too oblivious. Each of the characters received an invitation to the island from a mystery U.N. Owen. The judge got a letter from "an old friend" to have a visit together. Vera got offered a secretary job. Lombard was sent on a mission. Brent and the general were going for a vacation invite from a friend. The doctor was going for an appointment. Marston was invited for fun. Blore was sent on a mission also. The Rogers were sent to work as housekeepers. That sums up all of the reasons each was at the island in the first place.

Metacognition

Metacognition

Question 1- Identify and describe two specific concpets you learned during this unit. Did you find the concepts easy to understand or not? Answer- Two concepts that I learned this unit are that even hereos have flaws and everything is not always as it seems. Most young kids always think that celebraties or anyone who is written about or seen by many is perfect. As a child, you think that they are like a God. The story, The Odyssey, shows how even the hero has a flaw jsust like anyone else. Odysseus' major flaw is that he is very arrogant. The story makes it very obvious and shows how he overcomes his majr flaw at times, but also shows how it affects him. Everything is not how it seems in The Odyssey because anything can happen. Just when Odysseus thinks he is about to go home, something new occurs that prevents him from going. The concepts were fairly easy to learn considering that I have learned about them growing up. Little by little as I get older, I see more people's flaws and how they manage them. Question 2- Identify at least one concept or skill you will devote more study and practice to. Answer- One concept I need to devote more time to is soccer. I have worked hard at doing my best since I was seven years old. I fell in love with sport and I want to go as far as I can for as long as I love the sport. I need to devote more time in learning more about the professional teams that play on TV instead of ignoring the games. They are great learning opertunities for anyone who loves the sport. I also need to practice more at the skills I am not good at like jugging, fitness, and shooting. Question 3- How welll were you able to budget your time during this project? Identify at least one thing you can do (starting today) to better manage your time. Answer- One thing I can do is not procrasinate. Since, I have had so much homework this nine weeks, it was hard to focus on the project due in 5 weeks. Instead I focused on thehomework due the next day. Everyone knows that the homework due thenext day needs to be completed, but the project due in 5 weeks also needs to be started. That is why I am starting the poem project as soon as this project is over. That prject seems a lot easier for everyone than this one is. Question 4- Describe at least one specific action you will take (starting today) to overcome your most significant learning obstacle. Answer-I will manage my time better. I normally can manage my time very well, but with some of my classes it is hard and I don't have as much time as I use to for homework. In middle school I have time in the morning and only club soccer. Now I have to go to school earlier and I also am conditioning for school soccer. I plan on working harder over the weekends since that is when most of my free time is, but I also plan on working harder and more efficiently at night. I keep a schedule for when I need to do my homework and I plan on using it more. Question 5- If the last action you took to overcome a learning abstacle was not successul, explain why. Answer-My last action was that I attempted at managing my time. I wasn't very efficient while I attempted the task. I was more focused on other homework at times and I relied too much on the shortest amounts of time.
