Learning videos explained
With the help of my friend Justin Swain, I recently finished work on a few new learning videos which are being distributed for free on the web. One of these is a guitar instruction video showing people how to play the basic melody of the song Solsbury Hill. The other is a talking-head video about the life of the Wright Brothers. These mp4 video files are viewable on Macs and Windows with QuickTime 6.x or higher, as well as on Linux using MPlayer. These files can also be viewed on the new iPod, for portable learning.
If you're so inclined, you can upload your videos for free to the Internet Archive and then link to them from your Protopage. Search the Internet Archive for my name to view videos I've uploaded to the Internet Archive. (Click on the word QuickTime at the bottom of the file description, or on the links at the left side of the screen where the video file is described.)

Welcome to my Protopage. This free service lets you publicly or privately store text, links and photos. Click on the page numbers at the bottom right of this window to view my publicly viewable pages.
I'm new to Protopage myself, so teach me how this service can be used. My friend Chuks and Chizoba are learning Protopage, too.

In this season of peacefulness and tranquility, I thought it might be nice to share a raucous, no-holds-barred rock-n-roll version of Joy to the World, recorded over at my friend Mark Anderson's house. (Click on the link above to download the QuickTime file.)
Oops, sorry I got the song title intro a bit mixed-up. I also recorded a version of Oh Come All Ye Faithful, and accidentally mixed up the titles of the songs.
(You might want to turn down the volume of your computer a bit before listening to this song. Some parts of the song get boisterously loud.)

Playing guitar can be a fun and relaxing hobby. I can show you how to play chords, fingerpicking and strumming. I've been playing guitar for more than 25 years and have been teaching guitar to youth and adults for the past 3 years.
You can see me in a short video teaching the song Solsbury Hill at http://protopage.com/pshapiro
(click on the link at the top left of the screen. It helps to have DSL or a cable modem to download this 40 megabyte file.)
You can also see and hear me teaching guitar in the QuickTime and audio files at http://guitarlesssons.blogspot.com
I pride myself in being a gentle teacher who can transport students in their guitar learning journey. Some of the students I've taught have become very strong guitar players in less than a year. I give them credit for their success.
Note - I don't teach electric guitar. My background is in folk and folk/rock guitar. I charge $20/lesson for 45 minute lessons. If you live within 10 miles of Greenbelt, Maryland, I charge $15/lesson. Students wanting to get a head start on learning guitar could well benefit from the training video, "Learning Guitar for Dummies," which several of my guitar students have found helpful. Amazon.com sells this video as a VHS or DVD.
